Occasional bruises and bumps are expected when children participate in sports, but there are those who suffer severe injuries enough to an extent of requiring a hospital emergency. Strains, sprains, contusions, fractures, and abrasions appear at the top of the list of sport-related injuries especially for children who are aged between 6 and 19. The injuries result in costs that amount to more than $900 million annually. (Brenner, p. 98). Studies have it that, one in every five children who are taken to the hospital, is treated for a sport related injury. Basketball, football, and soccer are the common sports from which the children obtain the injuries from.

It is, therefore, right to argue that, sports injuries will always be there. Children will suffer new injuries while other continue to suffer overuse injuries. However, the most effective technique to deal with the injuries is to focus on risk factors that are related to the injuries obtained by children. Close analysis of the risk factors can be effective in reducing injuries among the athletes.
