Young People and Viewing Trends

Young People and Viewing Trends:American youth are flooded with media. They have TV sets in their rooms, laptops as well as personal computers in bedrooms, and advanced music players and cells in their rucksacks. They spend much of their time viewing media more than any one particular action other than resting. A normal American between 8-18 years old is reporting more than six hours of everyday media utilization.

The largest percentages of the youth have full access to the various types of existing media. The numbers of youth who are joining long range social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace increase day by day (Kirkorian, Wartella, & Anderson, 2008).

Increasing concerns, however lay in the lack of parental supervision over young people’ media propensities. To some degree, most parents are excessively occupied to be involved in what their children are devouring (UNICEF, 2004).
