Young Goodman Brown
Like several of the novels and short stories of Hawthorne, ‘Young Goodman Brown’ tends to occur in Puritan New England, particularly in Salem, Massachusetts. This society was notorious during some years back for witch hunting activities. The author bases his content in this area as it is believed that it is a form of critic towards the rulings made during the witch hunting era.

It is the intention of Hawthorne to showcase the sin which every individual has inherited through the first humans (Adam and Eve), and to cause greater knowledge as to the historical, psychosexual and religiously symbolic pretexts which made events such as the Salem witch trials take place in our history.
