# X- and Y-Intercept

X- and Y-Intercept: In mathematics, functions appear as if they have a semantic of their own. A function’s definition is by its set of inputs, termed the domain. Moreover, its definition can be by a set comprising the set of outputs, and perhaps supplementary elements as members, termed the codomain. Lastly, a set of all output-input pairs, termed the graph can define a function. In this case, we look at the X and Y intercept functions. The x-intercept is the position at which a line meets the x-axis that is, the point where the y value equals to 0 (zero) in a line.

X-intercept(s) can be found by substituting y with 0 and resolving the subsequent quadratic equation ax^{2} + bx + z = 0 for the value of x. The equation has a unique, dual, or no resolutions. When with one resolution, there will be a single x-intercept; when there are dual resolutions, there will be dual x-intercepts, and when the equation has no resolution, the graphing will lack x-intercepts. It is easy for one to conclude that functions are the backbone of mathematics.
