Throughout much of the past four decades, scientists involved in studying and researching drug abuse labored largely in the shadows of the powerful misconceptions and myths about the nature of addictions. When science in the 1930 began to study the addictive behavior, as well as the people addicted to drugs they were thought to be lacking in the willpower as well as morally flawed (Domjan, M, 2014, p.32).
The above views thus shaped the society’s response to drug abuse and its consequences, treating it as a fail in morality rather than the health problems which in particular led to emphasis on punitive measures rather than the therapeutic and preventive actions. Thanks to science the responses and views to drug abuse have altered dramatically the society and the way drug addiction is approached. Breakthroughs about the brain have improved the drug addiction understanding thus enabling us to respond effectively to the problems.

Influence of the social environments can be a huge risk for weak individuals as they are bound to be influenced by the ethnicity or cultures, genders, development stage or the adolescent cognitive development and, therefore, it is fundamental to restrain from such surroundings. However, if addicted the four learning elements are crucial in ensuring that the brain is altered to help develop a healthy lifestyle.
