What does the published research say about developing the next generation of leaders?: The next generation of leaders will be those who were born between roughly 1980 and 2000, these future leaders are known as the Generation Y. Statistics derived from U.S. Census Data, indicate that approximately one million Millennials get into the workforce annually; while roughly 40 percent of the American workforce will consist of Millennials or generation Yers by 2020 (Lykins & Pace, 2013).

According to Munro (2012) Gen Y leaders are expected to reinvent corporations as global forces, cultivate cultural intelligence, nurture decision-making intelligence and strategic thinking, and encourage long-term collaboration (Munro, 2012).  Generation Y is ready to make changes throughout the world, however, the leaders must change the way they lead to adapt and accommodate the qualities and characteristics of Generation Y.
