Victim Assistance for Victims of Hate/Bias Crimes

Victim Assistance for Victims of Hate/Bias Crimes:Hate or bias crimes are those that are perpetrated against people who belong to a certain social group. The crime is usually based on the group factors such as gender identity, sexual orientation, language, nationality, physical appearance, religion, and ethnicity.

In order to deter violence that is motivated by bias, there are groups that provide assistance to the victims of hate crimes. (Altschiller, 2005, p.21).  In Plymouth, various groups have been established for the purpose of taking care of the victims.

In Attorney Genera’s office, there are various divisions that have been established to help the assistance groups. They include; Victim Compensation and Assistance Program, Civil Rights Decision and Community Relations Service.

To ensure that each case is controlled in the county where it occurred, the assistance groups take their cases to the District Attorney Offices that are responsible for the perpetrators’ prosecution. (Till-Mobley, 2004, p. 376).
