This paper will look at the adverse effects of exposing abused drugs on the brain. It tries to explain the modifications caused by the induced drugs on the brain physiology. It also tries to explain how the brain copes with the abuse. It also looks to explain the effect of addiction on the LTD (Long-term depression) which is an essential synaptic plasticity in the accumbency.

The paper also presents the recent evidences that suggests that administering cocaine and nicotine very fast, will work on the mesocorticolimbic circuits, and thus induce psychomotor sensitization. It concludes by saying that those drugs that are delivered faster promote addiction more easily because of the neuro-behavioral plasticity that leads to compulsive pursuit of drugs.
