The influence of the theory of Scientific Management

The need to increase individual productivity in an organization led to the emergence of F.W. Taylor’s scientific management theory in early 20th century. The theory based it philosophy on rationalizing organization and work with the aim of maximizing productivity, prosperity and cooperation within the organization (Le Masson, Weil and Hatchuel, 2010, p. 23). Since its conceptualization, the theory has continued to influence production and management model profoundly within organizations even in the current age of information technology, industrial restructuring and production flexibility.

From the discussion, scientific management theory influence on the organization has been remarkable, and almost no other management theory has been able to outdo it. The theory is a guiding principle that continues to influence how modern organizations are designed to ensure maximization of productivity. However, Taylor stressed on work efficiency and technology importance and failed to note there are many limitations.
