The history of nuclear power
Nuclear energy or nuclear power is used to refer to the process of using exothermic nuclear reactions to generate electricity or heat. Though atoms are very tiny, they have a tremendous amount of energy that is holding their nuclei together. When the isotopes of some elements are split, they release some of this energy as heat.
This energy released during fission can be used to generate electricity in a nuclear power plant.Like most advanced technologies, nuclear energy has undergone many changes and improvements in the name of perfecting the technology.

Much like in a fossil powered power plant, in a nuclear plant, water is turned into steam which can be directed to drive turbine generators which will produce electricity. The water in the reactor and that in the steam engine are kept separate and do not at any time mix. In a boiling water reactor, the water is heated by fission till it boils. The steam then turns the turbine generator.
