Islam may be referred to as a universal religion because it recognizes one God as the ruler of the entire world. As much as this religion grew out of a particular 17th century Arabian context, Muslims claim that their central book should be read in Arabic so that it is fully appreciated. The claim that Arabic should be used in reading the Islam’s central book leads to tension between the universal and the particular.

In conclusion, Islam is a religion that is attractive to its followers, even those residing in Western cultures. This is due to its simplicity. It is clear that Allah is One, the Creator, the Sustainer, as well as the Law giver. The strong faith of the early Muslims is also another factor that makes it attractive.
