The figure of Sailor in The Heart of Darkness and The Secret Sharer.

The figure of Sailor in The Heart of Darkness and The Secret Sharer: Joseph Conrad portrays the figure of sailor in both the “Heart of Darkness” and “The Secret Sharer” as a person of capabilities but with a weak heart. For example, the saga of a naive young skipper is forced to make findings concerning the destiny of a fugitive sailor who murdered a man in self-protection. As he faces his initial moral test, the skipper recognizes the whole truth upon coming directly with the secret itself (John, 2006).

Through traveling, Conrad could keep economic liberty, survive out adventures and run away from political conflict.
