Sandra Cisneros, being the only female sibling in a family of six brothers, was expected to follow a traditional female role that she found quite puzzling due to the constant relocations her family made when she was a child. Sandra began writing while in high school in Chicago where they finally settled and decided to further her studies by majoring in English at the Loyola University.

Through her use of specific themes, motifs and styles she has been able to give a form of conscious subjectivity of the women with Mexican origin that live in the USA. Sandra Cisneros’s works have challenged the ego-driven one man show where she has given a voice on issues that had been neglected or avoided despite being significant to the Chicana works and literature.
