Religion and Reform in America From 1820 to 1860:The period between 1820 and 1860 was a period of rapid change in America. People were challenged to improve the society with the concept of Romanticism taking root in the society. There were various movements in the community mobilizing people in the society to strive to achieve perfection. The reforms advocated by the different movements reflected optimism in the society with regard to religion, education, temperance and women’s rights. The reform movements also expressed pessimistic views of society in relation to the different aspects in the society. This paper will focus on religion and reforms that occurred in America between 1820 and 1860.

Educational reforms were important for the improvement of education in America. Religious movements also contributed to the social concern in the society regarding slavery, violence, and other negative aspects in the society. The reforms also gave birth to philosophies in the society, and some of the world’s greatest thinkers came up during this period.
