Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the most helpful psychotherapy for PTSD victims. It involves exposure therapy, cognitive restructuring, stress inoculation training. Exposure therapy helped the victims on how to face and control fear by exposing them to the trauma they experience, but in a safe way. Cognitive restructuring helps the patient to reduce anxiety since most of the patients feel guilt and shame of what happened even if it was not their fault (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
Cognitive restructuring helps the victim to make sense out of the traumatizing memories by remembering the event in a realistic manner. Stress inoculation training assists the victims in looking at the memories in a healthy manner.
