The Post Traumatic Stress Disorder was a term that was coined in 1980 to refer to a medical condition that developed during a person’s is exposure to traumatic events like sexual assault, terrorism, or any other event that threatens personal life. Before 1980, there were many terms that were used to refer to the condition and many people are known to have written about it. Shakespeare and Dickens wrote about the condition. According to Shakespeare, Henry IV suffered many diagnostic criteria for posttraumatic stress disorder.

Different societies also had different names for this condition depending on the cause that mostly exposed them to it. In addition, the condition is more prevalent amongst veteran soldiers of war who spent part of their lives in battle fields (Saigh & Bremner, 2006). This essay will discuss how PTSD has been view through the civilization history of a man in reference to the society names and views of the condition through the history.

Early reports

Several religious texts reports about the terrible aftermath of trauma. For instance in the book of Job, Job appeared to be suffering from a mental problem from his traumatic life experiences. Combat-related stress was to report a kind of PTSD by Mahabharata from the Mahabharata warriors.
