Plea bargaining is an agreement between a prosecutor and a defendant, in which the defendant agrees to plead guilty for some concession. It is meant to shorten the lengthy criminal trials and also help the defendant to avoid risky conviction on more serious charges. Arguments have raised about the modern criminal justice system while some question its equitable and fair process in the criminal justice system.

This also raises the ethical issues of whether this form of negotiation provides a system for obtaining reliable results. On the other hand, the defendant may feel that it is adequate to plead guilty and end the trial process while at the same time avoid harsh convictions. The legal consequences for such actions are ignored completely in such cases (Bushway and Allison).
