Logistics and Information Technology

The word Logistics originated from a Greek word logistike meaning the art of calculating. In the modern interpretation, the word derives its meaning from the military. It is used to describe the activities, which are related to the procurement of fire arms and ammunitions as well as the essential supply of military’s essential food supplies for troops located at the front (Wang J. , 2013).

Following the achievement made in the logistics and supply chain management through IT, it is fair to conclude that technology is the only vehicle to increased competitiveness. Therefore, selecting the right technology for different logistics is very crucial for any business to gain competitive advantage in today’s competitive market.
