Language Acquisition Factors
Some students can learn a new language faster than others. Even though majorly the rate at which a student can learn a new language depends on his or her hard work and persistence, there are additional internal and external factors that affect this rate. Internal factors are those the student brings with him or herself to a particular learning situation. On the contrary, external factors are those that characterize the situation in which the language is being learned. In the case of Anale, both internal and external factors affect her English language acquisition.

Access to native speakers will be a limiting factor to Anale’s acquisition of a second language. Anale lives in a place where Spanish is the primary language, and it is spoken most in her home and her neighbourhood. For a student to absorb a second language faster, he or she is supposed to interact frequently with the native speakers of her second language outside the classroom. From these factors, it is clear that Anale will face both propelling and inhibiting factors when learning her second language. Factors such as lack of solid literary skills in their first language, and lack of access and interaction with native speakers will limit her acquisition of second language, English.
