Jumba and Tabitha had business ideas that caught Mr. Barcott’s attention. The plan by Jumba centered on; offering micro-credit to the slum youth from a start up capital of 400$. This shows how local solutions to local problems are important in any development. Mr. Barcott could have made sure that before handing out the funds. He needed to ensure that the individuals he funded had real and actionable needs through proper research. Jumba’s funding request was not backed by a proper need or proven research. The local solutions are therefore best for the slum youth since they understand their needs best. At the same time, speculators like Jumba who work in their offices away from the slum reality should be ignored to allow the residents to own the projects.
