Human development lines up as a well-being concept. This field has been responding to numerous changes in direction, methodology, as well as the content provided by research from the past three decades or more. This paper responds to these new directions, explaining how the themes of biology and sociology, multiculturalism, positive psychology, and feminist perspectives augment my views on human development. In addition, the paper goes further and compares the newer theories to the more classical ones of Erikson, Freud, Vygotsky, Piaget, and Bandura. Therefore, this paper shows exactly how the newer theories are different from the older ones.

As much as newer theories are coming up, there is still much to learn from the more classical theories. For example, I had no idea Piaget and Vygotsky differed on their human development theories. Now I know that Piaget postulated that child development necessarily preceded learning. In sharp contrast to Piaget, Vygotsky believed that social learning is what precedes child development. However, it is imperative to mention that the newer theories are a real eye opener.
