Influence that the media has on individuals with anorexia nervosa
Anorexia nervosa is an eating condition that makes people be obsessed about their weight and the food they eat. People who are diagnosed with this disorder make extreme efforts to maintain a weight that is way below normal for their age and height. These people are characterized by uncontrolled food restrictions, inapt eating rituals or habits, obsession with having a thin figure, an illogical fear of gaining weight, and a damaged perception of self-image. The disorder common among women and rare among men on a ratio of nine to one. Due to lack of adequate nutrients for energy and nourishment, these patients experience dizziness, drowsiness, headaches, and lack of energy (Minuchin, Rosman, Baker & Minuchin,2009, p.68).

It is clear that Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder that makes people be possessed about their weight and the food they eat. People who are diagnosed with this disorder make extreme efforts to maintain a weight that is way below normal for their age and height. Media greatly influences individuals with anorexia nervosa. Young people, especially girls, want to look like models and celebrities they see on movies, modelling shows, modelling magazines, and on social media. They resort to using crude means such as starving or over-exercising so as to have a body like those they see on the media.
