According to Occupational Safety and Health Administration, an organization’s workplace must address contemporary issues in safety and health management, this is meant to ensure the reduction of workplace hazards, as well as to promote or encourage a culture of health and safety (Reese, 2003). Also, addressing safety and health management issues helps in strengthening the efficiency and effectiveness within the infrastructure of a workplace.

The company was cited and given a fine of 7,000 dollars for failing to establish an effective and reasonable crowd management practices. In 2011, Sears was cited and given a fine of 128,000 dollars for seven safety violations (OSHA, 2011). These violations included blocking exit access with retail equipment and material, failing to repair broken racks that caused the instability of stored merchandise and failing to post signs along the routes of exit.
