Childhood obesity in our nation has risen during the past years. The rising number of health cases which are associated with obesity has undermined population’s health and significantly increased social and economic costs. The immediate health effects of childhood obesity include; risk of getting cardiovascular diseases, for example, high cholesterol or high blood pressure, increases the chances of children having a prediabetes (Annina & Parker , 2011).

Other immediate effects are that children are at a greater risk for sleep apnea, social and psychological problems and bone and joint problems.

Problem Evidence

More than thirty percent of the nation’s children are in record to be obese (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). Management of these health effects is costly. For instance, in America, obese children spend over $1400 more than their counterparts with normal weight. In addition, more than 112,000 obese children succumb to death due to obese related illnesses (Elizabethi & Boyd , 2011).  It is in detail that childhood obesity costs USA approximately 3 billion dollars annually (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014).

When obese, parents can be advise on how to guide their children in adopting a healthier lifestyle. For instance, children can be taken through fitness program that suits their individual case (United States Department of Agriculture, 2012). Finally, parents should make sure that they engage their children in the intake of proper nutrition and balanced diet to either manage or prevent childhood obesity.
