Freud, Piaget and Vygotsky
Sigmund Freud was an influential neurologist in the twentieth century due to his contributions to the vast field of psychology. His work has further gone to influence other fields besides psychology such as art and literature. Among his many theories, Sigmund greatest contributions are his theory on how to treat mental illness and its consequential explanation on human behavior. The theory is termed as psychoanalysis, and it remains the most influential single theory on the psychotherapy practice.
The psychoanalysis is solely based on the concept that the persons are duly unaware of the numerous factors that cause their emotions and behaviors. These unconscious factors are potentially likely to bring or develop high levels of unhappiness thus the individual expresses a score of some distinguishable symptoms such as the disturbing personality traits, disturbances in self-esteem, general disposition and the difficulty in relating with the others (Freud, S, 2012, p.12). The theory further expounds on understanding the mental functioning of an individual. This is as well as the stages of development and growth. Consequently, psychoanalysis is a theory on human behavior as well as experiences. It tries to explain and connect the relationship between the human behavior and mind.

Piaget’s theory emphasized the universal cognitive changes while the Vygotsky’s theory expounds why individuals need to expect highly variable developments, that mainly depend on the child’s experiences to the surrounding and environment. Irrespective of the criticism, it cannot be denied that Sigmund, Piaget and Vygotsky’s contributions to cognitive development in human behaviors were immense.
