Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse Relationships

As stated by John Gottman, “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” can be described as behaviors that are splendid forecasters of either a terminally unhappy or a failed relationship. The “Four Horsemen” include Criticism vs. Complaint, Contempt, Defensiveness, and Stonewalling (Gottman, 2010). A complaint focusses only the particular action at which a partner has failed. Criticism, on the other hand, is global as it attacks the partner’s personality or character.

Having vital talks head-on may be unpleasant, but it is the only method that should be used. Phone, text, or email are not the suitable mediums because too much may be misunderstood. Public confrontations should as well be avoided. It is not fair have an emotional conversation when everyone is watching.
