Flow – Long Distance Running: According to Marin& Bhattacharya (2013), being “in the zone” or “in flow” is described as an exceedingly focused state of mind which happens when one is intensely engaged in an activity (Marin & Bhattacharya, 2013).
Specifically, Csikszentmihalyi (2009) broadly describes flow or optimal experience as a psychological experience one that involves the positive experience of being effusively engaged in the successful pursuit of an activity, and as a result of its intrinsically rewarding characteristic.
Flow seems to motivate individuals to keep returning to the flow-inducing activity and achieve greater challenges (Csikszentmihalyi, 2009). Essentially, flow is associated with high achievement or peak performances as well as feelings of extreme pleasure and joy.
