Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado

Indeed, many have wondered whom the character Montresor is addressing to in the phrase ‘ You’ in the short story of the Cask of the Amontillado. It perhaps seems possible that especially in the view of the narrator’s advanced years that he might be talking to himself. He is a lonely, friendless man who committed a murder of the character Fortunato and later writes about it five decades later.
