Does gestational diabetes result in cochlear damage?:Gestational diabetes is a condition suffered by some pregnant women characterized by high levels of blood sugar (glucose). It mostly occurs in women with some degree of glucose intolerance and may affect about four percent of pregnant women (Kale, 2014). It mostly occurs during the third trimester due to hormonal changes. Cochlea refers to a very small bone structure with the shape of a snail located in the inner ear and in combination with other structures make up half of the inner ear meant for controlling hearing. Cochlear damage is a condition that occurs when cochlea is damaged by accident, disease or even accident resulting to hearing problem.

Mothers think that it was God’s intention to have them deliver deaf kids, despite them suffering from gestational diabetes. Thus, they cannot come up with management practices that would be of great help to the children. I can use this knowledge to enlighten the mothers on lifestyle practices that can help them prevent or manage gestational diabetes.
