Differences between Jericho and Catal Hoyuk as urban centers: The Neolithic period was marked with improvement in agriculture and pastoral farming. These developments allowed for development of urban centers, trade, and other essential factors of civilization.
Until the Neolithic period, people were involved in hunting and gathering, a technique of food extraction as opposed to food production. Hunting and gathering was not sufficient for a large population, unlike agriculture which sustains a huge population.
This may explain why the population increased significantly during the Neolithic period. Further, agriculture was associated with an increased trade. People began building permanent houses as opposed to temporary houses that hunters and gatherers used.

Ain Ghazeal statuettes
Gardner & Kleiner (2011) point out that Ain Ghazeal statuettes are plaster figures with a core of twine and reeds with bitumen pupils resembling cowry shell eyes.
They had an orange and black hair, tattoos, clothing, and body paint. They were recently discovered by archeologists, marking the beginning of a monumental sculpture in ancient Asia. They were discovered accidentally by road developers in the 1980s.
Archeologists excavated the site to search for more evidence of Ain Ghazeal statuettes. The site was important for historians such that it was included in the world monuments watch to prevent threat of encroachment of the area for urban development.
