Colonialism refers to when a country establishes, exploits, maintains and expands territory in another country. It is when an indigenous majority are controlled by a minority from a different country. The decisions made by the colonizers affected the lives of the colonized people. In other words, there is an unequal relationship between a colony and the colonialists. There are various types of colonialism.

Colonialism that existed many years ago continue to affect people in the recent years. The systems that exist today, whether social, political or economic, are similar to those that existed in the colonial era. The effects of such systems impact peoples’ lives similar to the colonial days.
