Case Study Analysis: American Airlines Flight 191

American Airlines Flight 191 was scheduled flight to Los Angeles International Airport from O’Hare International Airport in Chicago. The flight operated by a McDonnell Douglas crashed takeoff from Chicago. The plane had 258 passengers and 13 crew on board who died in the accident along with two others on the ground. Investigators realized that jet was carrying out the takeoff rotation, engine number one separated and flipped over the top of the wing. The engine damaged the left wing as it separated from the aircraft resulting in a retraction of the slats.
