BYOD or bring your own device is a concept that was developed by management and IT experts to encourage employees to use their own mobile devices to work. Smartphones, tablets, laptops and other devices in the modern mobile technology have made the concept even more acceptable.
Employees enjoy BYOD because of activities like personal banking, email, Facebook, family coordination, twitter and calendar among others (Egan, 2013). The concept has benefits of increasing innovation and productivity because employees are comfortable with own devices hence gaining expertise.
Employees tend to have more upgraded devices hence are more edge cutting for the benefit of work. There is employee satisfaction because they use devices of their choice and not what the IT people choose for them. They also do not need to carry multiple devices to work.
Furthermore, BYOD saves costs by shifting costs of paying for mobile and data services to the employee instead of the organization. This benefit could make the employee prefer using office devices for all official work.
