American with Disabilities Act.

American with Disabilities Act: Tom Harkin who authored and sponsored the bill through senate introduced the Americans with disability act in senate. The bill was passed by senate and signed into law by President George H. W Bush in 1990 and underwent amendments effective January 1, 2009.

The major intention of the bill was to give people with disabilities equal rights with the people without. The hurdle though is the definition of people with disabilities.

In the act disability is defined as “a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity” (Blanck and Braddock, 1998) several such impairments are not considered in the act for instance an eye defection that can

This would force a lot of business to incur costs of construction and modifications to be in line with the act. In a sense, it would add expenses to these small businesses.

This would also impede on the development of businesses and the country at large. Small businesses that would wish to build structures would be force to incur additional expenses in ensuring that their businesses comply with the act.

The question that begs to be answered therefore would be, are these inconveniences caused by the act to businesses going to improve the life of persons with disabilities to considerable degree? Is it worth it? The act would also affect the startups in the U.S.A.
