Abraham Lincoln or Andrew Jackson
Abraham Lincoln was elected as US president in 1860 at an era when the hostilities between the North and the South overwhelmed the nation with one of the bloodiest civil war ever known in the United States. Prior to this civil war, seven slave states had seceded from the Union after which four more other followed suit. The war ensued for four years claiming the lives of more than 600,000 thousand Americans as President Lincoln stood by his conviction to protect the American Laws and subsequently ending the secession (millercenter.org). He is famously known as the freedom man from his Emancipation Proclamation where all slaves were freed within the Confederacy thus shifting the war from saving the Union to a freedom battle (millercenter.org).
