Born Out of Place’ gives stories and experiences of migrants mothers from Indonesia and Philippians. It brings out the experience of the migrants in the Asian world and in the process raises various concerns. Constable centers on the argument that women are seen as workers and nothing more. This leaves women ability to be a good worker and good mother in opposition. The women have difficulties balancing their personal lives and especially playing their mothers and wives duties and at the same time working.

Daisy had a fantasy of getting married to a white rich man. She wanted to be financially secure, and she dreamt of getting married to a white man. She, however, ended up getting married to a Chinese man instead. Her fantasy would have been to get married to a white man but reality she got married to a Chinese man. Motherhood is more of a reality and not a fantasy.
